Ducts are an integral part of a forced-air system.  Ducts are used in conjunction with a furnace, heat pump or central air conditioning unit to circulate heated or cooled air evenly to every room in the house.

Poorly performing ducts can leak conditioned air and reduce your system’s efficiency by as much as 20%, by causing it to work harder to keep your home at a comfortable temperature. Further studies conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency indicate leaky ductwork accounts for 10 to 30 percent of total heating and cooling costs.

Ducts are commonly concealed in walls, ceilings, attics, basements, or crawl spaces, which makes it difficult for you to realize you actually have a problem.  Fact of the matter, most homeowners are not aware they have a problem until it's called to their attention by excessive monthly energy bills most often while comparing bills with a friend or neighbor.
